Photograms
Man Ray:
Man Ray - Man Ray (Emmanuel Radnitzky) was an American photographer that lived in Paris, France most of his life. Ray was mostly known for "Rayograph". A "Rayograph" is a technique of creating a photo without a camera, the technique is a very old one but mainly emerged in early 1920s. Man Ray used the technique so much that the new prints got named after him "Rayographs". Even though photograms already existed before 1920s Man Ray claimed to have invented photograms and that is why he named the after himself.
Christian Schad:
Christian Schad was a German painter who was in the movements "Dada" and "New Objectivity". Schad used the technique of taking pictures without a camera by placing objects over light-sensitive paper and left the to develop by his windowsill. Schad started to explore this technique in 1918-1919 and was preceding to Man Ray by a few years. In 1920 a magazine "Dadaphone" called Schads pictures "Schadographs''.
László Moholy-Nagy:
Was a Hungarian painter, graphic artist, teacher and a photographer. Nagy made an image without a camera by placing ordinary objects on a sheet of photosensitized paper and exposing it to light and suggested to the world that photography may incorporate/transcend painting as the most vital medium of artistic expression in the modern age. His theories and work is very important for the history of photograms as it encouraged other photographers to explore other ways of taking photos.
Developing Film
Journey Project
I made a pictures of my journey going Blackheath-Canary Wharf-Central London. I went for a few different styles of photos, some black and white, some oldschool style and some regular, simple pictures. I think it went very well as I got some very good looking pictures in terms of meeting the set tasks like to try and see different things, capture transport. I also think that the objects and colours make very appealing pictures.
